Combustion Theory and SOx Control

My Master of Engineering research topic was SO2 emission control for coal combustion process, hence I was heavily involved in the combustion theory. And in 2011 I was again forced to learn a bit because I was preparing for PhD exam into Zhejiang University.

While my primary interest is in mathematics, due to historical reasons, I am still involved in the researches of combustion and related SOx emission control, because this was my area of research at the time of my postgraduate studies. Another reasons is that I am currently writing a fairly comprehensive review of the deSOx theory, technologies and applications as my contribute to my postgraduate tutor as well as the academician and a thermophysical professor at Zhejiang University, who might admit me into his research program. I will tell you my writing and research progress here.

Unfortunately, I was not admitted into the PhD studies program at Zhejiang University's Institute of Energy and Environment in the Department of Energy. Although I passed the written exam with relatively good scores - English 80, Adv. Combustion and Heat Transfer both 70, the interview was not successful. No reason was given, even after I have sent inquiry email and made several phone calls to the admissions office. Later I have also filed complaints against towards the unfair treatment of my examinations, bust no one has replied to my requests within the Zhejiang University. I've sent the complaints to the deans of the Energy Dept and the Graduate Dept. My short experiences with the PhD admission policies have already revealed how serious the corruption is within the Chinese academic circles. Before sending my references, one of my colleagues at Tongji University, warned me not to pursue after a PhD at Zhejiang University, "in order not to sacrifice your life there", she said.

It took me four months to prepare for the examinations and some efforts to prepare for the interview and related documents. In fact, I've spent much more time than that. Over the last years or so, I've been in contact with Prof Cen Kefa, an academician of the Chinese Enginerring Academy, for my research plan and hence have submitted to him a number of documents detailing my research intentions. In one word, I have spent much much more time than the combined efforts for all other universities and institutions all over the world over the last 3 to 4 years (2006-2010).

This part of the studies has come to an end.
