Quality Software
(Dec 2002 - Jan. 2003)

Although relatively short in trying this sector, it was of course in no way new to me - I started my quality career as early as in 1992 and consecutively for the next 7 to 8 years. And just less than eight months ago, in March-April I was still working in the quality industry, with online ASP services as my duties.

At that time, I was the marketing manager for ASP services, Internet/Intranet/Extranet based quality documentation, calibration and audit control system software and application implementation.

Searching on the WEB however, you could find a much more profound use of software and systems for the quality matters - quality control, quality certification, document control and all elements of the quality systems can be computerized. Six Sigma, and other quality assessment systems are also being computerized. So it opened a wider area of development then previously imagined.

After two weeks of studies, together with my previous experiences, I thought I was ready to go ahead with marketing.

Once again, I have inquired by chinese and foreign software developers to work together for the local market in one of the following ways: 1) as their local representative, 2) providing technical support.

At the same time, I have also contacted quality system consultation and certification companies to find out collaboration opportunities either as their contractor auditor, consultant or marketing person in the region.

Although there were a number of replies, none of them were to my expectation. For example, one company in Guangzhou was interested to assign me as their local marketing man but didn't promise to provide financial support. Others asked me to buy a software package for a dealership rights. Still others wanted to employ people with auditor certificates issued by domestic organizations and my certification by a german company was not a positive point gain. Some were willing to hire me as their part time auditor or consultant, but for a project of consultation with a duration of upto 6 months they can only pay 5000 yuan. To me it's wasting time.

Luckily my services did attract attentions in the industry. Already a power utilities in Dalian called upon me to develop an ISO 9000 compliant systems in their corporate Extranet, which, if won, would be an order of a million yuan or more. But it was about one month later after my withdraw from the quality arena, and partly also because such a scale of project was out of my capacity. I have to decline it.

The last client inquiry was an inquiry for a QS-9000 training.
